This site is dedicated to the memory of Rubin Day.

Rubin was born in Royal London Hospital on 5 October 2014 four months early. We named him after Rubin Carter who features in Bob Dylan’s song Hurricane. This was both giving him a fighter’s name – after the boxer who fought to clear his name when he was wrongly imprisoned – and continuing the Haslam family tradition of naming children after songs from Dylan’s album Desire. He received the best possible care from the doctors and nurses at the neonatal unit of the Royal London Hospital, but was not strong enough to overcome an infection he caught. Al and I got to spend two weeks with him, touching him, reading to him, changing his nappy, singing to him and playing him music. On the morning of his death we were called to the hospital, and were able to pick him up for the first time, and have him in our arms when he passed away. We are eternally grateful to the wonderful staff at the unit, and to our incredible families for all they have done for us. We greatly miss the little man we got to know in these two precious weeks. We love you baby Roo.
